Biography

Scott E. Kandell is a founding partner and Managing Partner of Kandell, Kandell & Petrie, where he has spent the last 30 years advocating for individuals and businesses throughout South Florida and across the country. A South Florida native, Scott has built his career on a commitment to excellence, integrity, and results-driven advocacy—principles that continue to guide the firm’s success.

Scott earned his Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in 1993 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 1995. He began his legal career at Brumer, Cohen, Logan, Kandell & Kaufman, where he practiced personal injury law. After several years with that firm and its successor, Cohen & Kandell, Scott and his father, Stephen Kandell, established Kandell, Kandell & Petrie in 2001. Under Scott’s leadership as Managing Partner, the firm has evolved from a small personal injury practice into a prominent property insurance coverage firm with a diverse and growing client base, while maintaining the high level of professionalism and personalized service on which it was founded.

Over the past two decades, Scott has significantly diversified his practice, representing individual policyholders, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, real estate investment firms, and corporations of all types. He has successfully resolved multimillion-dollar commercial claims and guided thousands of catastrophic property-loss matters to favorable outcomes, including claims exceeding $25 million in damages.

Scott has been named to the Florida Super Lawyers list for several consecutive years, and he is widely respected and admired within the legal and insurance industries for his pragmatic approach, skills, leadership, and results.

Scott is admitted to practice law in Florida, Texas, and Colorado, and his practice focuses on insurance law and insurance coverage disputes, including first-party insurance claims and denials, commercial property insurance claims, hurricane and windstorm losses, water damage claims, and statutory bad faith matters.

Known for his strategic and efficient approach to claims handling, Scott is highly regarded for his ability to cut through complex issues, prioritize what matters most, and maximize client recoveries without sacrificing efficiency or practicality. He remains deeply knowledgeable about the industry and continuously adapts his business practices to meet the demands of an ever-evolving legal and insurance landscape.
